Urgent Food Safety Improvements Needed in Lancashire

MP’s have called for tougher enforcement action on food outlets in Lancashire to improve food hygiene standards, after Environmental Health research has revealed almost 120 outlets have been deemed in need of ‘Urgent’ or ‘Major’ hygiene improvement.

The latest investigation reveals there’s a large variation in hygiene standards between local authorities. The worst figures come from Hyndburn Borough Council followed by Blackpool.

With consumer awareness of food hygiene increasing, could mandatory display have a detrimental effect on your business?
Sarah Delaney, Consultancy Services Manager and EHO at Shieldyourself says “Poor food hygiene increases the likelihood of food borne illnesses occurring and can result in death. To think that so many of our local restaurants, cafes, shops and takeaways are exposing us to such risks is alarming.”
She goes on to say “In Wales, mandatory display of Food Hygiene Rating Scores is a legal requirement. Although it’s not the case in England yet, could it be on the horizon?”

If you are eating out or getting food in you can check food hygiene ratings of your favourite takeaway or restaurant by visiting the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website or download the Food Hygiene Ratings App
