Shieldyourself Day in the Life Of — Business Development Manager

With the ever increasing need for a larger workforce here at Shieldyourself, we asked one of our Business Development Managers (BDM) to give you an insight into their daily life as part of the team.

Business Development Manager

As a Business Development Manager for Shieldyourself, there is no such thing as an average day. Every single day is different and it is never boring.

My role is split between a bit of office, a bit of home and a bit of the open road. Today is a combination of all three.

This morning in the office I have some proposals to write up from previous meetings with prospective clients. Due to the nature of the businesses we support in hospitality and our range of compliance products and services, every proposal is different and tailored to each client.

We have a team of Business Development Executives who set most of my appointments with prospects and organise my calendar, meaning I can concentrate on the meetings themselves and following up any actions. My role can involve travel to all kinds of exotic places around the UK but today I am fairly local to the office in Manchester. I quickly update the company sales figures then I’m out the door.

I specialise in generating business with prestigious brands who have multiple locations. Today I’m seeing a hospitality company with around 20 sites, this is our third meeting and I’m hopeful this should be the last one before they sign on the dotted line. Due to the complexity of our solutions, it can take multiple meetings for large contracts. This particular client wants our ‘compliance package’ as a whole, from audits to our market-leading software solution to tailored policies for Food Safety and Health & Safety.

My appointment is a success and I have a commitment that they want to sign up to the big wide world of Shield. I need to revise my proposal due to a few added extras and then I’ll be able to get the contracts out for sign off.

I’m then on my way to my next meeting which is a smaller business with 6 locations. Initial meetings are always fun as you never know what they have in place and where we may fit in. Interest level is high and I leave with some actions, this sale will take me to my monthly target. Winning.

Luckily I am local to the office today so I don’t miss the weekly Shieldyourself 5-a-side. We do Sales vs. today and we win (of course).

I head home and check my calendar for the following day. The team have done a great job and booked me two webinar demos to do from home tomorrow.
