Last month, When You Wish Upon a Star came to Shield Safety HQ to chat about all of the remarkable work they do and how we’re helping them achieve their goal.
When You Wish Upon a Star has a simple mission. To grant the wishes of children aged 2-16, living with a life threatening illness. Since 1990, they have made over 16,500 children’s dreams come true, including meeting celebrities, attending the Grand Prix and swimming with dolphins.
“We believe every child deserves to smile and with your support we can provide time away, giving children and their families something to look forward to through times of uncertainty and often financial as well as emotional strain. Wishes allow the family to put their child’s illness on hold as they have fun and create precious memories.”
Our Founder and Managing Director, Mark Flanagan, is a firm supporter of the children’s charity, “We started supporting When You Wish Upon a Star in 2009 when we realised how much happiness granting a child’s wish can bring” he explains.
We have run a range of activities this year which has resulted in raising £1,764.11 for the worthy charity. The Shield Safety Running Club set themselves some personal milestones by signing up for the Manchester 10k in May, and then went one step further to complete the Manchester Half Marathon in October. They look set to beat their personal bests this year at the Manchester Marathon in April. The less-active members took part in Pumpkin Carving Day and we have run a few ‘Bake Offs’ throughout the year (yum).
As with all charities, the life-changing work that When You Wish Upon A Star carry out can only continue with donations. Here at Shield Safety Group we are always trying to think of new ways to increase our fundraising activity. Could you or your company help too?
