Recall of Products Containing Mustard Powder Due to Undeclared Peanuts

As part of an ongoing investigation by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), FGS Ingredients Ltd has recalled products containing mustard powder due to undeclared peanuts, posing a risk to those with peanut allergies. We urge you to take the following steps to protect your customers:

1. Allergen Matrix:

  • Please update your manual allergen matrix to include peanuts in any instance where mustard is identified as an ingredient or where a product “may contain” mustard.
  • For those using an automated system, ensure that all products containing mustard are reviewed, and assume that they may also contain peanuts.

2. Communication Channels:

  • Review and update all communication routes for both customers and colleagues. This includes point-of-sale materials and any verbal communication with customers, reflecting the potential peanut contamination where mustard is present, either as an ingredient or when labeled “may contain mustard.”
  • Additionally, ensure any use of mustard as a condiment is clearly communicated.

3. Colleague Briefing:

  • Ensure all team members are fully briefed on the current situation and understand the necessary updates to processes and communication.

More information can be found on the FSA website.
