Shieldyourself founder and managing director shortlisted for prestigious CIEH Excellence Award

The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health 2016 Awards has shortlisted Shieldyourself Founder and Managing Director, Mark Flanagan, for their Outstanding Achievement Award as a result of his extensive work in the environmental sector.

The prestigious event, sponsored and attended by the The Rt Hon Lord Rooker, is to be held in the House of Lords this July. Renowned throughout the industry for their excellence and calibre, the awards recognise and celebrate good practice, rewarding those who have excelled in the realm of environmental health.

Mark has had a long standing career in the industry. Starting out in regulatory enforcement he quickly saw the struggles that businesses were going through to maintain compliance – the sheer amount of paper just one of many. Shieldyourself was founded in 2003 with the aim of supporting clients across all areas of risk and safety management. All services offered across Food, Fire and Health and Safety are delivered through market-leading software, the Compliance Centre.

Based in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, Shieldyourself has experienced rapid growth over the last 13 years and now has 100 employees, employing the biggest number of Environmental Health Practitioners in the country. Mark has given aspiring EHPs the opportunity to be innovative to meet the demand for solutions.

Mark said on the awards: “It’s such an honour to have been shortlisted at the CIEH Awards 2016. The awards truly showcase the high level and credibility of the industry and are a fantastic way to celebrate the success the sector has achieved this year in many different areas.

“To be acknowledged by the official professional body and considered personally for the Outstanding Achievement Award is extremely humbling, but all of my work so far could not have been achieved without the skill, expertise and knowledge of the whole team at Shieldyourself delivering the very best results to our clients at all times – so this nomination is for the whole team.”

Mark and some of the team at Shieldyourself are looking forward to attending the event where the President of the CIEH, Tim Everett, together with the Chairman, Anne Godrey, will present the members of the profession with the CIEH Environmental Health Achievement Awards.

Mark ends: “We are looking forward to the ceremony and hearing from the esteemed panel of judges. It’s going to be a great afternoon to spend with our peers and learn from each other how we can innovate and progress this interesting sector. Finally I would like to say good luck to all that have been shortlisted both in my category and for the other prestigious awards.”
