Primary Contact: Finance Director, Mark Gubbins

Number of locations: 3 out of 9 currently working with Shield Safety

Problem faced by client

With a hotel tagline of ‘Opulent and luxurious, with the Gainford stamp of excellence’, Gainford Group wanted to ensure that excellence was achieved whilst managing compliance at two of their most prominent sites – playfully innovative restaurant and late bar, AVEIKA, and magically elegant, The Vermont Hotel.

One of the problems they faced was a lack of expertise in safety, with staff all having differing levels of understanding – meaning decoding technical jargon was particularly challenging. Whilst they thought they were compliant, they had concerns that an EHO would say otherwise. They were also unsure of the full remit of a local authority inspection and what was expected. There were further concerns that standards and legislation may change over time, and the Group may not be up-to-date or legally compliant.

Head Office and sites are located at some distance from each other, so Gainford Group were also missing a central location to manage compliance and for key documentation.

Shield Safety’s solution

By working with the UK’s largest team of Environmental Health professionals, we were able to alleviate Gainford Group’s concerns with access to instant support and advice from the Safety Advice Line service.

In addition to that, ‘onsite advice given during the visits, helping us to understand the issues which were found’ explains Finance Director, Mark Gubbins. Issues were highlighted and explained clearly during onsite visits by Shield Safety Auditors with a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry. Any non-conformances were rectified quickly, which not only impressed the EHO so much both sites were awarded Food Hygiene Rating Scheme scores of 5, it also aided their relationship. ‘Being awarded FHRS ratings of 5 at both of our site reflects the high standards that we strive for throughout the organisation and by continuing to work with Shield Safety we are confident we will maintain these – cementing our strong relationship with our EHO’ says Mark.

Award-winning software, Compliance Centre, offered Gainford Group an online location, accessible by all sites and Head Office giving full visibility and ensuring version control. Food Safety & Health & Safety Management Systems and corresponding Compliance Diaries also offer senior members of staff to keep on top of all areas.

The double 5 FHRS ratings are perfectly timed as both sites have recently launched new menus, visit www.aveika.co.uk or http://www.vermont-hotel.com/ to find out more.
