Fire Risk Assessment (FRA)

Fire Risk Assessment (type 1) is a non-invasive risk assessment service delivered by competent and qualified assessors and ensures compliance with UK regulations, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order. It provides a comprehensive assessment of a customer’s location by examining building features, documentation, fire safety practices, and associated risks, while ensuring that all findings are published digitally through RiskProof for easy review and action. The assessment is conducted primarily in communal areas and a representative sample of accommodation rooms where access is available.

The product is primarily aimed at businesses operating in hospitality and related sectors, including hotels, hostels, restaurants, pubs, and other environments where people sleep. Although hospitality forms the core client base, the service is also suitable for offices, care homes, and residential buildings (common areas). For non-residential premises, they are structured around current PAS 79 guidance and for residential premises, they comply with relevant British Standards. It is designed for organisations that manage single or multiple locations and need a consistent, expert led assessment process supported by digital reporting and portfolio level oversight.

Key features of the Fire Risk Assessment (type 1) product include a structured scheduling process; a non-invasive on location assessment conducted by competent, qualified, trained assessors with professional backgrounds; and a full digital publication workflow via RiskProof. All assessments are peer reviewed and validated against Shield Safety’s internal quality standards, including checks for technical accuracy, completeness, consistency with methodology, supporting evidence, spelling, and grammar. RiskProof provides dashboards, multilocation visibility, standardised criteria, and the ability for customers to review, sign off, and manage nonconformances. The system also incorporates an escalation pathway for intolerable risks to bring these to the customers’ attention as they occur. It also offers translation options for international clients through browser-based tools or extracted documents processed separately. Additional features include AUT software for assessors to upload data offline during fieldwork and the use of consistent phraseology within the reporting criteria to ensure clarity and quality.

Upon completion, the customer receives a fully published fire risk assessment within the RiskProof platform, containing detailed nonconformances, conformances, and areas not applicable during the assessment. Reports are typically published within 7 working days as they go through comprehensive quality assurance processes. The report includes building descriptions, scopes, observations, photographic evidence, and risk ratings ranging from observed to intolerable. Customers are automatically notified when the report is available, and they can sign off actions digitally, reinstate incorrectly actioned items, review portfolio level dashboards, and extract information for local authority or internal compliance requirements. For international clients, translated versions can be provided as additional uploaded documents. The finished output is a defensible, consistent, and actionable fire risk assessment that empowers organisations to understand and mitigate fire safety risks in a clear and timely way.
