Jenny Morris joins Shield Safety Group

To facilitate our rapid growth plans, last year we put together a Strategic Advisory Board, full of industry heavy weights including ex-FSA Head of Local Delivery, John Barnes. We are delighted to announce that former CIEH Principal Policy Officer, Jenny Morris will be coming on board.

Joining as Strategic Advisor, Jenny has unparalleled food safety knowledge under her belt. Starting out as a small food business owner and chef, she built up her food hygiene interests and trained as an Environmental Health Officer. After working for several local authorities, Jenny then went on to work for the CIEH as Principal Policy Officer from 2002 – 2017. Her breadth of knowledge and contribution to the environmental health profession was publicly recognised in 2014 when she was awarded MBE for services in environmental health. In the same year, she was appointed Head of TiFSiP, a job she carried out until the end of 2016.

With unmatched expertise, during her 15 years at CIEH, Jenny was seconded to the London Organising Committee (LOCOG) for the Olympic and Paralympic Games to manage food safety for London 2012. In this role, Jenny set safety and hygiene standards for all food served at the Olympic venues, as well as managing a large group of environmental health volunteers who carried out operational checks during Games time.

Since retiring from the CIEH, as well as joining Shield Safety Group, Jenny has this year set up her own business, Morrjen Consulting Ltd, which provides advice to businesses throughout the UK and beyond, in both the public and private sectors.

With continuing success in the industry, Jenny is the perfect choice to join the Board to support the consultancy in identifying anticipated trends, making sense of the future of regulation following the ambiguity of Brexit’s effects and helping us continue to remain one step ahead.

With more than 25 years in the industry, Jenny will work closely with the senior team to help continue to deliver their excellent and innovative food safety services for the retail, manufacturing and hospitality sectors. What’s more, with her position in the industry, she will support Shield Safety closely in their current work with the CIEH to innovate and maintain the profession. Already through providing aspiring environmental health students with placements to help them qualify, Shield Safety aims to inject a fresh outlook of youth and technology to the profession.

Conveying her motives for the move, Jenny said:

“Throughout my professional life I have believed that we should expect food to be safe, wholesome and transparent. This sounds straightforward, but needs continuing attention to ensure systems are up-to-date and easy to implement. Otherwise, as recent incidents, such as the horsemeat scandal show, we will get caught out.

It is an ongoing challenge that needs both dedication and innovation. It needs us to be flexible and think differently if we are all (consumer, business and regulator) to benefit from the radical change facing us, such as Brexit and the FSA’s review of food safety controls.

I was delighted when Shield Safety asked me to join. They already have a great reputation for customer support and bespoke, innovative services. They have built an impressive customer base and are growing fast. I look forward to helping them find practical solutions to both today’s and tomorrow’s challenges”.
