We love catching up with our clients, especially when there’s a good story to hear. One of our newer clients, Flaming Cow, is a Shield Safety success story when it comes to their Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) score – going from a 1 to a 5!

Problem faced by client

‘You’ve not had real burgers until you’ve have a Flaming Cow experience’ which is probably one of the reasons that the brand expanded from a single-site in Windsor to their West London home in Ealing.

Owner and Director, Tarek Elawadi, felt not only the pressure of juggling varying roles as manager, front of house, stock taker and so much more but also keeping up with general compliance. Ensuring both sites were filling in their vital due diligence was a high priority. An outdated Food Safety Management System was also noticed by the visiting EHO which left one Flaming Cow branch with a FHRS ‘score on the door’ of 1.

Following a recommendation from a relative working at Shield Safety veteran YO! Sushi, Tarek came to us for support.

Shield Safety’s solution

Documentation was of utmost importance so we were pleased to be able to support Tarek in this area, ‘Shield Safety tweaked these for our business, the products are not generic or off-the-shelf’. Bringing up standards of compliance was a ‘well-balanced process between the actions carried out online, the paper-based checks and the onsite visits which form the face-to-face relationship’.

Flaming Cow were also one of the first clients of the brand new FHRS Re-visit service, so the team were on hand to support Tarek and his colleagues in making the improvements highlighted by the EHO and also proceeding through the application. “A surprise twist meant that the EHO visited again midway through this service – but with the rest of the Shield Safety package already in place the visit went smoothly,” explains Tarek. Our skilled EHPs were then able to advise on the recommendations from the second visit – finishing touches.
